SIGNING: Taylor completes Clan netminding trio

July 15, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the signing of new netminder Ty Taylor for the 2022-23 season.

The 23-year-old is another up-and-coming goalie, about to make his move into professional ice hockey after a brief taste of it in the ECHL with Orlando Solar Bears.

And not only is Taylor relishing the chance to make the next logical step in his career, he’s keen to challenge his netminding colleagues Zach Driscoll and Euan Simpson.

“I’m super excited to get the chance to play professional hockey and for me to get here, it’s a great accomplishment,” Taylor said.

“It’s something I’ve worked towards my whole life, although I got a taste of it in Orlando, but nothing like this.

“It’ll be great to start the year with a professional team and while I plan to be supportive with Zach and Euan, I want to push them as well.

“When you play in goal, everyone wants to play, while I aim to be competitive, I assume the other guys will do the same, which is a good thing for the team.”

Taylor got a taste of action in Orlando after joining them from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton where he played for much of last season.

Prior to that, the six-foot-four goalie played at the University of New Hampshire for three years, joining them from BCHL side Vernon Vipers, from whom he was drafted to Tampa Bay Lightning as a round seven pick.

Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron says reports on the young goalie have been favourable as he added him to his line-up for the new season.

“Ty was a draft choice for the Tampa Bay Lightning and was highly recommended to me as a guy with tremendous upside,” he said.

“He played in a very good league in the BC Hockey League, followed by years in the NCAA and the USports League.

“When I spoke with the coach at Orlando Solar Bears, he said some positive things about Ty and he’ll work hard to improve his game here.

“He also offers us a lot of flexibility and options for next year and we’re excited to have him join us for the new season.”

Taylor will wear the #1 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23, joining John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie, Stephen Dixon, Liam Stenton, Gergely Tóth, Zach Driscoll, Gary Haden, Colton Waltz, Steven McParland, Shawn Boutin, Mathieu Roy, Mitch Jones, Jordan Buesa, Harry Ferguson, Kevin Massy, Brad Kennedy, Euan Simpson and Gabriel Chabot on the roster for next season.
