SIGNING: Cochrane set for career relaunch with Clan

August 16, 2021

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of young Scottish defenceman Reece Cochrane.

The 20-year-old Kirkcaldy-born player is looking forward to not only returning to the sport after taking time out due to the pandemic, but going back to an old haunt as well.

“It’s been a long 18 months without any hockey, but can’t wait to get playing and being around a team again,” he said.

“It sort of feels like a lost year, but it’s been replaced by the excitement that we’re almost back to normality and into a routine.

“I’m still young and I hope I’ve got a long career ahead and this move to Glasgow could set me up and progress me further.

“Having been at Fife, it’ll be different going there as an opposition player. I watched all the games when I was younger and been on the bench for games with the Clan.

“It’s always a good game between them and it’s one of the games I’m looking forward to. I hope we get what we deserve and win, but we’ll need to see what happens.”

Cochrane, prior to lockdown, had been with Sheffield Steeldogs in the NIHL National League, where he played 42 times and scored three goals and added 13 assists.

Prior to that, he iced 70 times for Fife Flyers and has been a GB international at Under 18 and Under 20 level and Clan coach Malcolm Cameron has high hopes for him.

“Reece is a young defenceman who has experience of this league from before and has some upside to his game,” he said.

“He sees the ice well, competes hard and I love working with young players who can learn and improve quickly.

“I think Reece will be one of those types of guys and by Christmas, everyone will see major improvement and be a guy to lean on to play some big minutes.”

Cochrane is signing number 14 for the Clan in 2021/22 after Shane Starrett, Colin Campbell, Rodney Southam, Matt Haywood, Jordan McLaughlin, Mathieu Roy, Medric Mercier, Nolan LaPorte, Colton Yellow Horn, Jordan Buesa, Cody Sol, Mikko Vainonen and Jamie Crooks.

He will wear the #16 jersey this season.
