SIGNING: Clan call on Sol

August 9, 2021

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defenceman Cody Sol.

The six foot six, no-nonsense blue-liner will give the Clan some physical presence at the back as they continue their recruitment drive for the new season.

And Sol is thrilled about getting the chance to experience something entirely different in his career as he prepares to leave North America for the first time in his career.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me after playing in this league for nine years and coming to Scotland seems like a good spot for me,” he said.

“I was getting to the point where I’d heard so much from my friends who have played overseas that I wanted to come over and do it myself.

“It also gives me the chance meet different people and experience different cultures rather than stay in Canada or America.

“The team looks a good crew the coach is putting together, with some young talents out of college and some experienced guys that I’ve come up against in the past.

“There looks like a good leadership group there already and the group we’re assembling has a lot of skill and score goals so it’s one I’m looking forward to be part of.”

Sol is swapping Florida for Glasgow as he makes his first move outside North America for the latest phase of his career.

He sent nine years in the East Coast League, where he played for Fort Wayne Komets, Ontario Reign and Colorado Eagles and more recently, with the Everblades in Florida.

Sol also played in the OHL with Kitchener Rangers and Saginaw Spirit in his early days and in his nine years in the ECHL saw him average 144 penalty minutes a year.

Coach Cameron highlighted some of the other things he’ll bring to the team and will be one of his key players in the coming campaign.

“Cody is a big, veteran defenceman who plays a lot of minutes,” he said. “He has good size, a good shot and works well with the stick and can play on both special teams, in powerplay and in penalty kill.

“He’s also a good leader, on and off the ice and someone who will undoubtedly stick up for his team-mates as evidenced by his CV.

“Cody has been a big player, wherever he’s gone and has played for some successful teams in the ECHL and we’re delighted to add him to the Clan this coming season.”

He is the 11th signing confirmed for the 2021/22 season after Shane Starrett, Colin Campbell, Rodney Southam, Matt Haywood, Jordan McLaughlin, Mathieu Roy, Medric Mercier, Nolan LaPorte, Colton Yellow Horn and Jordan Buesa.

Sol will wear the #44 jersey for the Clan next season.
