SIGNING: Boutin seals EIHL return with Clan

June 26, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Shawn Boutin for the new campaign.

The Canadian returns to these shores after previous spells with Coventry Blaze, in the 2016-17 season and Dundee Stars, where he played for two seasons between 2018 and 2020.

And his recollections of previous visits to Braehead Arena were part of the reason why moving to Glasgow was a lure for him.

“I’m glad to be coming back to UK and excited to be joining the Clan, a team I know well from my previous experience there,” he said.

“I love the league and enjoy the style of hockey, plus the fans there are crazy about hockey and that was a big draw for me.

“I used to enjoy the derbies with the Clan when I was with Dundee and enjoyed some good battles there.  They were intense and the fans in Glasgow were always loud.

“There are some good players in our team and I’m excited to be playing alongside Mathieu Roy again, after playing junior with him.  Seeing the excitement in the fans makes it fun to look forward to.”

The 31-year-old has 175 combined appearances to his name from his previous Elite League stints, with 65 points consisting of 12 goals and 53 assists.

Since leaving the Stars in March 2020 following the Covid pandemic, Boutin played in North America with Rapid City Rush and with Swedish side Boras.

Last season, he made 51 appearances for French outfit Mulhouse, picking up 16 points (5+11) and was their captain.

Malcolm Cameron, Clan’s head coach, welcomed Boutin his team and gave some insight into what he’ll bring to the team next season.

“Shawn’s a good friend of Mathieu Roy as they go back a long time,” he said.  “I’m familiar with Shawn’s game also and what he’s done in his career.

“He’s well respected in any place he’s been and was captain for his team in France last year, not to mention the roles he had with Coventry and Dundee before.

“Shawn’s a good skater, a veteran D-man and can play in the special teams, plus he’s a right shot defenceman, which are hard to come by.

“That was another area I was looking to build on so I’m pleased to have Shawn on board and welcome him back to the UK.”

Boutin will wear the #27 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23 and joins John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie, Stephen Dixon, Liam Stenton, Gergely Tóth, Zach Driscoll, Gary Haden, Colton Waltz and Steven McParland on the roster for next season.
