NEWS: Stevenson heads Clan leadership group
The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the leadership group for the 2023/24 season.
Dyson Stevenson will be the captain, which had been announced previously and resumes the role he undertook during the 2021/22 season in his first campaign.
Joining him as home alternate captains will be Robert Lachowicz and Cody Sol, while Bryce Reddick and Mike Pelech will wear the ‘A’ on their jersey on the road.
The players also took the opportunity to reveal the brand new home purple/grey and white/purple away pre-season jerseys the team will wear in the forthcoming weekend double headers against Cardiff Devils and Belfast Giants.
Stevenson says it’s an honour to be wearing the ‘C’ again, but insists he won’t be the only leader in the locker room.
“It’s always an honour to be given the captaincy and it’s a role I’ve fulfilled in other places including here in my first season,” he said.
“It’s nothing new to me, but we have experienced players who have done it with other teams so I’ll have lots of help with me.
“I’m excited and I’m really happy they’ve chosen me to do it and I want to be the best leader I can be on and off the ice.”
Lachowicz and Sol spoke of their delight at being included in coach Jason Morgan’s leadership group and both players outlined their strengths.
“Being given the alternate captain role is one I like to have as someone who’s been around the league for a little while now,” Lacho said.
“I think I can direct the new guys in the league well and show them the ropes. It’ll be nice to have that ‘A’ on the jersey for what’s going to be an exciting season.”
Sol added: “It feels awesome to be back here and when the coach told me he wanted me to be part of his leadership group, it’s a real honour for me in this building.
“Dyson’s a great captain and is more of a physical leader, where I’m more vocal and I think we can feed off each other.”
Newcomers Bryce Reddick and Mike Pelech will add to the voices when the team play on the road and both men insist they’ll lead the right way.
“It’s an honour to be named an assistant captain on this team,” Reddick said. “We have a lot of leaders in the room and while it’s nice to get the recognition, there are others who could easily fill that position.
“I aim to lead by example and while I’m not a loud person, I like to do the right things and hopefully the guys see that and jump on board.”
Pelech added: “It’s an exciting thing to have and I’m honoured to be given that responsibility for the season ahead.
“I’m not the most vocal guy, but I like to practice the proper way and take care of myself in the right manner so I want to be someone who can lead by example.”
Head coach Jason Morgan spoke about his appointments into the key roles of the team and outlined his reasons for choosing who he did.
“If you look around the room, you’ll see an abundance of character and leadership and I’ve always gone with one captain, with two alternates and two on the road to give more of a voice,” he explained.
“Dyson was the obvious choice as captain. What he did for the club last season and what he does for the team goes without speaking.
“At home, we’ve got Cody Sol, who knows the club from his time here before and I heard a lot about his leadership qualities. He also stands up for team-mates and brings a lot to the locker room.
“Having Robert Lachowicz as the other home alternate comes from his experience in the league and being from the UK, he brings a lot to the table and will be a great additional to the team.
“On the road, Bryce Reddick is a pick for the role and is another player who knows the Elite League. His work ethic and demeanour, plus his experience overall made him right for the role.
“We’ll also have Mike Pelech taking the alternate ‘A’ when we’re away and he is not only a great team guy, but another with lots of games under his belt and made sense for me.
“But there are plenty of other players in the room who bring similar qualities and that will be a key feature for us this year.”
