NEWS: Roy departs the Clan for North American opportunity

December 6, 2022

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by , can confirm the departure of Canadian forward Mathieu Roy with immediate effect.

Roy requested to leave the Clan after recently receiving a very good long term opportunity in hockey back in North America.

The 36-year-old originally joined the Clan back in 2019 having previously iced for EIHL rivals the Sheffield Steelers during a 4 year stint.

In 124 games for the Clan, Roy scored 64 goals and assisted on 53 others with 113 penalties in minutes.

Clan associate coach Dyson Stevenson commented: “Roy was a very important piece to the puzzle, it’s really sad to see him go as he was a forward that played top minutes for us.

“A very good job opportunity for the future became available to him, he came in and told me of his situation and was very upset with having to leave a team especially because everything is starting to head in the right direction.

“However, he is a veteran player with a family and he thought it was very important to put his family and future first and I think that is very respectable.

“He was a player with a ton of experience, who was the first one at the rink everyday and would always be ready to work when he would take to the ice.

“This is obviously a blow to our line-up, but we have been dealing with adversity all season and we won’t stop fighting to make the team the best we possibly can.

“The organisation and the players respect Roy’s decision to put his family and future first.”

The Clan wish to place on record our huge thanks to ‘The King’ for his efforts and contribution to the club during his 3 seasons and we wish Mathieu, Kathryn and Adeline all the very best in the future.
