NEWS: Reece returns on two-year deal

March 22, 2024

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to confirm the re-signing of Scottish defenceman Reece Kelly on a two-year deal which will see him ice for the club during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

The 22-year-old has impressed in his first season at the club, playing regularly and developing under the mentorship of his older team-mates, particularly Cody Sol.

And he’s admitted he had already set his mind on returning for another year as he talked of what he wants to achieve next season.

“I’ve absolutely loved it this year and obviously happy with the ice time I’ve been getting,” he said. “It’s technically my first year as a pro and it’s been a great experience.

“I’ve been lucky to have played as often as I have, and it’s allowed me to learn and play in certain situations.

“I don’t think I could have had anyone better to work with than Cody Sol.  He’s always talking, always positive and stays behind with me after practice to work on the small things.

“His communication has been the biggest thing, asking if I’m okay and making sure I’m learning, and I appreciate everything he’s done for me.

“Coming back was a no-brainer and my mind was always set on coming back to Glasgow next season.  I’ve been treated really well and I have no complaints.

“For next year, it’s all about taking more opportunities with ice time or having a bigger role and trying to contribute in every way.”

Kelly arrived in the summer after a season split between a few appearances for Cardiff Devils and experience in the NIHL with Bristol Pitbulls.

His calm demeanour on the ice and intelligent plays made him a favourite with the fans, who have watched his development with great interest.

Head coach Jason Morgan is delighted to welcome Kelly back and reckons the road ahead in his career looks to be a good one.

Morgan said: “Reece has a tremendous, bright future ahead of him and he has a big body, where he’s played very well and made lots of progress.

“Having some older leadership guys on the back end with him, like Cody and Bryce Reddick, they’ve really helped him develop into a day to day professional and a full time regular in the league.

“He’s just going to get better and better, so I’m thrilled to have him back and look forward to continuing our relationship and working with him in the future.”
