NEWS: McLean settled after hectic start
Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan defenceman Drew McLean says the Purple Army gave him the energy to get through his debut for the club on Saturday.
McLean was announced late on Saturday afternoon before being thrown in against Coventry Blaze on the same day, where he picked up his first point in the 4-1 win.
And it’s fair to say he was blown away by the whole Braehead Arena experience as he looked back on his first appearance in purple.
“I was supposed to arrive on Friday, but my flight from Detroit was delayed and as a result, I missed my flight from Newark to bring me over so ended up having to wait 24 hours,” he explained.

“After the hectic travel and getting in when I did, I remember saying to some of the guys after the game that the atmosphere and everything, it was just incredible.
“Just having all the support and the crowd so filled plus getting the win, it was great to part of and a great way to meet the wonderful fans.
“Going into it, I was jet lagged and running on three hours sleep, but to hear my name then the noise from the crowd, it really rejuvenated me and a great experience.”
McLean joined a team with only one win in 22 going into last weekend and after playing his part in the two that followed, including Sunday’s 4-2 victory at Manchester Storm, he says there’s a buzz in the room.
And he’s looking forward to his first taste of a Scottish rivalry when Clan take on Dundee Stars in a double header, starting on Friday at Braehead Arena (face-off 7.30pm).
He added: “There’s definitely a feeling that mood is turning in the room and I know I’ve only been here a few days, but getting those two wins, the boys are buzzing.
“We’re excited for the games coming up and the practices have been good all week so the mood is definitely upbeat ahead of this one.
“We did exactly what we needed to do to get the four points last week and we’re looking to do the same thing again.
“Rivalry games always have an edge and I’m sure this one will be no different. It’s the big shots, the big hits and the battling to the very end. I’m excited to see what this one is about.”
