Glasgow’s Braehead Clan forward Alex Leavitt says he would love to sign off with the play-off trophy in the bag.
The 33-year-old is in his final month as a professional ice hockey player after announcing on Monday he will retire at the end of the season.
He admits it was a decision that was in his mind as he returned to Glasgow for his second season this year.
“I’d been thinking about for a while and I spoke to ‘Finner’ about it a couple of months ago about my decision,” Leavitt said.
“Coming into the year, my wife and I kind of pretty certain this would be my last season, but it never hit until me until a couple of months ago that I was going to do it.
“There had been a couple of rumours so I wanted to get out there and confirm what was happening with me.
“It’s just five more games of the regular season and I’m hoping for four more in the play-offs and a trophy. That would be a great way to sign off.”
Leavitt is looking ahead to Saturday’s visit by Sheffield Steelers, believing it’s a challenge the team needs.
He added: “I think the Sheffield game on Saturday is going to be the hardest game we’ve faced in a long time. I imagine they’ll come at us pretty hard.
“They’ll want to finish as high as they can in that table and first place might be a little bit beyond them, but second place is a possibility for them.
“It’s going to be a tough game and one we probably need right now. We’ve been on a little bit of a funk since winning the Conference so we need a big game against a big team to bring us out of it.”
