NEWS: Hazeldine joy at country call

April 7, 2025

Glasgow Clan defenceman Joe Hazeldine revealed he was made to wait until confirmation of his inclusion in the Great Britain national team came through.

The 24-year-old will join up with Pete Russell’s side later this month for the World Championships Division 1 Group A tournament, being held in Romania along with Clan team-mates Robert Lachowicz, Lucas Brine and Cade Neilson.

But it’s the achievement of a lifelong dream for Joe as he prepares to go on national duty with the full men’s team for the very first time once the domestic season is at an end.

“Coming here and speaking to Corey, I knew I would get given the opportunity if I proved myself and it paid off. I feel like I’ve had a good year,” he said.

“It feels amazing.  It’s been a lifelong dream of mine since I left the Under 20’s to play for the senior team and I’m excited to go away and be part of it.

“A week before, I was asked if I would make myself available for the tournament which I said I would, so it was a case of waiting.

“I was sent an email by team GB to tell me I was included so it was an anxious Monday waiting for it to come in.

“It’s an exciting month for me and for everyone, finishing the season. Getting to the play-offs and then straight to GB duty.

“I’ve been around a lot of those guys before and grew up with a few so it will be good to get together with them later in the month.”
