NEWS: GCA night a hit for Clan

April 7, 2022

The great and the good turned out to celebrate the first season back post Covid for Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West.

The players, staff and head coach Malcolm Cameron were joined by fans including members of the OSC, volunteers and sponsors to mark the first in-person event in three years where the end of season awards were given out.

And what a night it was for everyone who attended The Normandy Hotel in Renfrew where a good night was had by all.

Hosted by Kevin McCoskrie and Gerry McLaughlin, there were jokes, laughs and even some highlights of coach Cameron’s quotes of the season.

The first award of the night was presented to Jamie Douglas, aka ‘Big Red’ for Unsung Hero Off The Ice for his work as the team’s equipment manager of the season.

Captain Dyson Stevenson followed by being presented with the Unsung Hero On the Ice and there was much more to come.

Netminder Shane Starrett picked up three awards for consistently impressive displays, capturing gongs for OSC Player of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and the team’s MVP.

There were further awards for Mitch Jones (Defenceman of the Season), Nolan LaPorte (Forward of the Season) and Mathieu Roy, who won Coach’s Player of the Season.

Gareth Chalmers, Clan’s Managing Director, extended his thanks to everyone who came to mark another special night.

“As always, the GCA’s were hugely popular and after a three-year absence, it was great to see everyone come out in support once again,” he said.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to have commented on what a great night they had and we’re delighted that it’s been a great success again.

“I want to extend my thanks to everyone who attended, the Clan office staff for organising the event as well as Kevin and Gerry for their work in hosting again.

“I also want to extend a special thanks to Aspray Glasgow West, Ogilvie Group, the Glasgow Clan OSC, Pro-Life Fitness Centre and XPand for sponsoring the awards and their ongoing support to the organisation.

“It was great to be back and it’s the beginning of exciting times ahead for the Glasgow Clan.”
