NEWS: Finnerty pleased at maximum points
NEXT HOME GAME: It may not be the biggest, but it’s British Ice Hockey’s most fierce rivalry! The Fife Flyers are visitors to Braehead Arena NEXT SATURDAY (7:00pm face-off). Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.
Glasgow’s Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty saluted his team for a four-point weekend and refused to single anyone out for special praise.
The overtime win on Saturday at Sheffield Steelers combined with Friday’s 2-1 victory over Manchester Storm made it a maximum weekend for the only the third time this season.
Finnerty was especially pleased with his defence, who performed well over the two nights to play a big part in the success.
“We’re short and a little banged up, but the guys stuck with it and made some big kills late in crucial against arguably one of the best teams in the league” the coach said.
“We executed a game plan in the way we wanted and I’m not going to single out any particular player. We had a great performance as a group and guys played out all over the ice.
“We had a common goal to get the points and we did that. We competed from the back out and scraped two wins against two high octane offensive teams.
“I think on Friday we played well and we competed well on Saturday. Our defensive zone is probably the best it’s been all season, but we’re not scoring as much as we’re used to.
“But I was happy for the way we rolled up. Our players did well in getting on the forecheck, creating some good looks, but overall it was a good weekend and I’m proud of my guys.”
