NEWS: Finnerty – Cardiff will face a different team

NEXT HOME GAME: It’s Purple Wednesday and Braehead Clan will host Cardiff Devils TONIGHT (face off 7.30pm) as both teams looks for Elite League points. Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty says Cardiff Devils will face a different Clan side to the one that went to South Wales last month.

Andrew Lord brings his team north of the border for a midweek clash looking to move level on points with top of the table Nottingham Panthers.

But Finnerty seemed galvanised that the performances his team delivered and showed him they can compete.

He said: ”The performances at the weekend were more important than the results for me and it showed, perhaps more for ourselves, that we can play at that level.

“I like to think the team they’ll face on Wednesday is different to the one that lost there last month. We have a better idea of our own identity and we’re more rounded as a group.

“Cardiff was a bad night for us down there. It’s a distant memory now and I feel we turned a corner a week past on Sunday and have kept that going at the weekend there.

Finnerty expects nothing less than a tough battle when the teams get together at Braehead Arena tonight (Wednesday).

He added: “They’ve got great offence in players like Bentivoglio, Layne Ulmer and Joey Martin, who is one of the best players in the league and has been for some time.

“Andrew Hotham controls the puck at the back really well and runs their powerplay. They’re pretty dynamic, but we have to make sure we’re getting good pucks in good areas.

“We have to put pressure on them and it’s going to be a tough battle against a team that will give us a big test of where we are.

“They play pretty stiff and have some big bodies in their line-up. In this league you can’t take a night off and we can’t afford to slip up any more.”
