NEWS: Dunbar refreshed and ready for final push

March 17, 2023

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan forward John Dunbar believes his team’s weekend off last week has refreshed them for their final four games.

The Clan are on the road to take on Guildford Flames on Saturday following their time away from action still battling with Scottish rivals Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars for the final play-off spot.

But Dunbar couldn’t be sure if last week’s results among the other teams, where Fife won one and lost one while the Stars were beaten twice, was a good thing.

“It was a unique weekend for us to have a break when everyone else was playing, but I think it’s done us some good and we’re feeling refreshed coming into the last four games.

“Seeing the other results coming in, it’s tough to know whether it was good for us or not.  Fife beating Nottingham isn’t ideal, but we’re in a position where we can only control what we can control.

“It’s a cliché but it’s important we look to ourselves and what we can do.  After that, it’s out of our control.

“We had a break last month and after getting some momentum beforehand, it seemed to be to our detriment and took us a few weeks to get going again.

“I think we’ve learned from it and this time around, it feels like a timely break where we could recover a bit and we’re up for the task in hand.”

For Dunbar, it’s a chance to visit a place he called home for five years after signing for the Clan from the Flames last summer.

But he insists he’s focussed on nothing else other than claiming the points that could go a long way to helping Glasgow’s play-off credentials.

He added: “Going to the Spectrum, we both have things we’re fighting and everyone knows they’re chasing a league title while we’re fighting for our lives for the play-offs.

“Seeing them going for the championship would be great and I would be happy for them to do it, but a little bittersweet for me after my time there.

“I wish them nothing but the best, of course.  However I want to go there on Saturday and steal the points from them.  That’s all I’m interested in.”
