NEWS: Dixon focussed on Clan’s own affairs

March 24, 2023

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan interim head coach Stephen Dixon refuses to look too closely at Nottingham Panthers’ current slump in form ahead of Saturday’s meeting between the clubs.

Clan take on Corey Neilson’s side, who have lost in their last four games, including Wednesday’s 5-1 home defeat to Dundee Stars.

But Dixon insists the danger is still there as Glasgow look for a first home win over the Panthers since January 2019.

“It’s hard to say about Nottingham and how they’ve done this season,” he said. “There are so many good teams in this league and the parity means anyone can win anywhere on any night.

“I haven’t followed them too closely.  We’ve just been worried about ourselves, but the league is so tight so I can’t really judge them.

“From being in the league, you can’t look at past results.  They’ll come here, play hard and look to get the win.

“Anything can happen and it doesn’t matter if they won 5-1 or lost 5-1 this week, we have to worry about what we do.”

Clan’s fate is now in their own hands after Sunday’s 5-1 away win at Fife Flyers and puts them in a position where a victory over the Panthers and losses for Fife and Dundee in their games on Saturday would see them clinch the final play-off berth.

Dixon recognises how much of an achievement it would be for Glasgow to get there, but is quick to remind that the job isn’t done yet.

He added: “It’s been a lot of hard work and we’ve got ourselves in a position where we can worry about our games and get the results we need to set our destiny.

“There were a lot of positives to take from the Guildford game, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, but it gave us something to build on going into Fife and it worked out for us.

“We’re at the fun part of the season and everyone’s on the same page.  Everyone wants to win and no-one can take a shift off and everything matters right now.

“As a whole, there’s been a lot of ups and downs and the guys have stuck with it.  We know we’re close and the guys deserve credit for getting us to this point.

“We can talk about what it means, but we’ve still to go out and do it.  All we want to do is get in there and see what happens.
