NEWS: Cowick wants to get physical

NEXT HOME GAME: Braehead Clan are back on home ice TONIGHT (face off 7pm) when they take on Dundee Stars in a League and Gardiner Conference game. Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

Braehead Clan forward Corey Cowick wants the team to return to their physical side – because he feels the team is better that way.

The men in purple host Dundee Stars on Saturday in the first part of a league then Challenge Cup double header.

And after a below par against Cardiff Devils in Wednesday’s 6-2 loss to Andrew Lord’s side, Cowick wants to a return to the style employed in recent games.

He said: “I think realistically we got what we deserved from the game in Wednesday. It wasn’t our best game and they came out and played well.

“When we’re playing with that intensity and everyone’s in the game, then that’s when we’re at our best. Sometimes it’s tough to have that in every game though.

“When you come off an emotional weekend against your biggest rivals, knocking them out of the cup, sometimes it’s hard to mimic that.

“But we have to do it against Dundee because that’s when we’re most successful so we’re looking to get back to that.

“They have a fast and skilled team and with the big ice over here, it helps them fly. Bringing back the physicality of it helps to slow them down and limit that speed.”

Dundee have made no secret of the fact their main aim this season is to win the Gardiner Conference, a feat they achieved in 2014.

While Cowick reiterated the desire for Clan to win the league, he stressed to be able to do that involves being successful in the Conference.

And he believes being at home on Saturday helps give Ryan Finnerty’s men the edge.

He added: “If you want to win the league, win the Conference and our aim is to go in and take the points off the teams we’re battling with in our section.

“We have the personnel in this locker room to win the league. If you want to be the best in the league, you have to be the best in the Conference and that’s where our heads are.

“After the start we had we want to get better in every game and we’ve made big strides in recent weeks.

“Any time we’re at home, I think we have the edge. The fans get us into the game, especially when we come out in a physical way, the atmosphere gets really loud so we want to do that again.”
