NEWS: Clan leadership group unveiled for new season
The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the captaincy group ahead of the start of the new Elite League season, beginning this weekend.
Deven Sideroff will wear the ‘C’ on his jersey in his first season in purple, taking over the role from Dyson Stevenson, who has moved on after last year.
Assisting him with alternate captaincy roles will be Mike Pelech, Steven Seigo and Cole Ully, completing the Clan’s leadership group.
Sideroff spoke of his pride at being given the role, something he is relishing as the league campaign begins to get into full swing.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity coach Corey has given me to lead this great team,” he said. “I’m proud and honoured to be captain of the Glasgow Clan.
“I know we have a special group of guys, and I can’t wait to get this season up and running. It’s going to be a lot of fun and we’re geared up to go out and win some games for the fans.”
Pelech continues on in an alternate role after doing so last season, while new faces Steven Seigo and Cole Ully have been added for their attributes too.
Head coach Corey Neilson gave an insight into his decision, and admits there were other candidates in the mix too.
“I think a team’s captain should be one of the best players if possible, and plays the way the coach wants the team to play,” he said.
“Deven is skilled, plays hard, and shows high end leadership qualities which makes him the right man for the job.
“There were a ton of great candidates for alternate captains, but I don’t believe in diluting the captains group as it can be wishy-washy.
“Mike, Steven and Cole have showed themselves to be players and people the team looks to for success, and I believe they’ll do a great job working with Deven.”
