NEWS: Clan Academy – our new Junior Ice Hockey Development program

July 5, 2024

The Glasgow Clan are set to foster the next generation of ice hockey talent with their new initiative, The Clan Academy.

This junior development program is currently in the planning stages, with the Clan engaging in a consultation exercise involving aspiring young players, coaches, and volunteers to shape the program’s future.

In collaboration with the Braehead Ice Centre, the Clan’s primary focus will be on teaching youngsters the fundamentals of ice hockey in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

This initiative aims to equip young players with essential skating and hockey skills, laying the groundwork for their potential progression into competitive play.

The Clan Academy will feature a comprehensive developmental pathway, beginning with the Learn to Skate program.

This initial stage ensures that participants become proficient skaters before advancing to the Learn to Play and Skills Development stages, where they will refine their hockey abilities.

Gareth Chalmers, the Clan’s Managing Director, expressed his excitement about the new venture: “We may even uncover a potential star player for The Clan, who has come through the ranks of our own ice hockey Academy.

“This is something we’ve been keen to do for a long time, and it would be great to see home-grown talent find its way into the Clan team in the future.

“But first and foremost, we want to establish the right structure for youngsters who want to skate and learn to play ice hockey at Braehead Arena.”
