Glasgow’s Braehead Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers today hailed the club’s Gardiner Conference title.
Following Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Dundee Stars at Braehead Arena, the Clan lifted their third consecutive conference trophy, and fourth in five years.
“Credit must go to Ryan [Finnerty], all the players and all the support staff for winning the conference” confirmed Chalmers.
“The way the league and conference is setup, we can only play what is in front of us. We got the job done, won the conference with four weeks left in the season and everyone should celebrate that!
“Each season, winning the conference is a minimum target for this organisation so to dominate it the way we did is testament to the team.
“With Guildford and Milton Keynes joining the league next season I am in no doubt the Gardiner Conference will become a lot more difficult to win.”
Chalmers also took the opportunity to reflect on the season so far and asked for a strong finish to the season.
“We were all very disappointed with our start to the season, we expected to be competing at the top end of the table and had to make adjustments to try and get back on track.
“It’s been a difficult season which we weren’t expecting, however Ryan and the guys have dug in deep and are finishing the season strongly which is very encouraging.
“We’re now focused on finishing the season as high as possible in the league, with an important playoff push coming up.
“The whole organisation obviously wants to finish the season off in style for the Purple Army with a strong playoff push and ultimately qualifying for the playoff finals weekend.”
