Martenet Returns to Strengthen The Blue Line

June 21, 2025

The Glasgow Clan are pleased to confirm that defenceman Chris Martenet will return for the 2025/26 season, marking his second consecutive year in Purple.

The towering 6ft 7 blueliner first arrived in Glasgow in November 2024 and quickly made an impact with his size, defensive presence, and team-first attitude. Known for his ability to shut down opponents and contribute on the penalty kill, Martenet became a valuable part of the Clan’s defence as the season progressed.

As he returns to Glasgow, Martenet will wear a new number — switching from #25 to #86 – a choice rooted in his hockey journey and family connection:

When I was younger I always played in #86. My mom played volleyball in #14, however, I couldn’t because the goalie had that number. My mum asked what makes 14 – 8+6. I’ve won championships in #86 and it’s time to bring it back.

Head Coach Corey Neilson was full of praise for the returning defenceman:

Chris was brought into the team last season to help out on the penalty kill, and he did that. With his size and length, he’s great at keeping opposition forwards away from our goal. He also skates well, makes a good first pass, and is a really good teammate. It was an easy decision to want him back.

Martenet’s strong skating, defensive awareness, and calm demeanour make him an important part of the Clan’s plans for the new campaign. His return adds size, experience, and reliability to a growing defensive core.

Welcome back, #86 Chris Martenet!
