The opening weekend ended with Glasgow Clan taking one point from their two Challenge Cup games as Dundee Stars edged them 2-1 on Tayside.
There wasn’t much between the teams in the first period, although Rasmus Bjerrum hit the post and Joel Rumpel had a few things to contend with in goal.
Stars had outshot their visitors by almost double in a fascinating period and when the opening goal came, it was Dundee who got it.
Lukas Lundvald picked up the puck at the blue line and rifled an effort in towards Rumpel, but Jordan Cownie was there at the slot to bury the opening goal.
Glasgow worked hard to get themselves level and did so around the half hour mark of the game with some magic from a familiar face.
Scott Pitt took possession of the puck, drove forward and hit a low effort past home goalie Pontus Sjogren to tie the game at one apiece.
Clan pushed in the early stages of the third, but could get nothing past Sjogren as Travis Ehrhardt, Brendan Connolly and Tyson Wilson all peppering chances on Dundee’s netminder.
In the end, it came down to Dundee, who took their chance and it was an excellent solo effort that was good enough to win it for them.
Matt Marquardt skipped down the right, evading Connolly, making inroads into the middle and tucking home past Rumpel for what proved to be the winner.
Clan tried for the late leveller to at least force overtime, but Omar Pacha’s side held on to claim the Challenge Cup points.
