The Glasgow Clan opened their league campaign with two points as Pete Russell’s side scooped a 4-2 win at Manchester Storm.
With plenty of positives built from previous games, it was time to get wins on the board and they did it to deliver the first for the new coach in a competitive game.
Both teams were deadlocked as the first period was drawing to a close, but Clan took the lead in the final minute to tilt the game in their direction.
Travis Ehrhardt was the one to get it on the powerplay, scoring against his brother Dallas’ team, as Linden Springer sat for tripping for the Storm.
The momentum continued into the second period, but a skirmish between Josh Gratton and Springer ramped the volume up in the Altrincham rink.
Glasgow seemed to take advantage of the fallout when Scott Pitt got his first of the night shortly after to open up a two-goal lead.
Storm got one back soon after through Marcus Basara to close the gap to one then Dane Byers equalised and the game was all square.
Pitt added his second from a Matt Beca assist to edge Clan in front again to ease the nerves a little.
But Brendan Connolly struck with an empty net goal to secure the points and begin the 2018/19 league season with the best possible outcome.
