NOTTINGHAM PANTHERS 6 GLASGOW CLAN 3

A stunning third period from Nottingham Panthers saw them take victory as they left Glasgow Clan on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline.

This battle between third and fourth in the Elite League saw Panthers close the gap to three points in their first win in four at the expense of their visitors, with losses in three of their last four on the road.

The night didn’t start well for the visitors and by the end of the first, the Panthers were in front.

Alex Guptill, who had struck the post almost immediately before, got the opener in the final minute of the opening session, tucking the puck away right in front of Joel Rumpel’s goal.

Brett Perlini added a second four minutes into the middle stanza with a shot over the shoulder of the Clan goalie, after being set up by Chris Stewart and the home side were two up.

Glasgow had their chances to pull one back and finally got on the scoresheet as Gerard Hanson got the finish to halve the deficit to one.

Within 90 seconds later, Clan were level at 2-2 when Guillaume Doucet helped out Brendan Connolly with the equaliser – a goal that needed goal line tech to confirm its legality.

Tyson Wilson picked up his first goal of the season with a shot sent into the roof of the net and Pete Russell’s had turned a two-goal deficit into a single goal lead in the third period.

However the Panthers found an extra gear going into the second half of the third period and it was Stevie Lee who pulled them level.

His shot from the blue line took a deflection from a Clan defenceman on its way in and the home fans were celebrating that one.

Three minutes later, Guptill had the Nottingham fans on their feet again with his second of the night to put them ahead once more in the game.

From here, Rick Strachan’s side didn’t look back when Luke Pither, assisted by Jaynen Rissling, gave them another two-goal lead at 5-3 which almost certainly put the game to bed.

Pither’s second came shortly after to make sure of the points with an empty net goal for the home side and ending the night in disappointment for Glasgow Clan.
