GLASGOW CLAN 0 NOTTINGHAM PANTHERS 4
Glasgow Clan will turn their attention to the double-header with Fife Flyers after suffering a 4-0 shutout loss to Nottingham Panthers.
It was a disappointing night against the rivals for third place, but despite chances from the home team, they found Patrick Munson in the Panthers goal in unbeatable form.
After the recent run of form, this was the perfect game for Clan to snap out of their recent slump in a form – a painful one won in their last nine – and set the foundation for a strong end.
Craig Peacock got a tip in front of Patrick Munson’s goal, but it went the wrong side of the post, but caused enough concern for the Panthers goalie to scramble across his crease to deal with any possible threat.
Panthers took the lead through Jon Rheault, who picked up a pass from Luke Pither and turned to prod the puck under Joel Rumpel, giving them the lead on the powerplay.
Shortly after, Vaclav Stupka was put through by Matt Beca, but found Garnett blocking his path to make a crucial pad save.
A fast start to the second period yielded promise, especially after Clan had outshot their opponents 16-6 in the opening frame, with Bjerrum going close.
But the away side’s lead was extended as Mark Hurtubise played into the centre and Dylan Richard exploiting space to tuck in a second.
A tip from Brendan Connolly caused some concern for Garnett late on in the second, but the Panthers defence came together to thwart the danger.
Clan hit the post in the early knockings of the third when a blast from Travis Ehrhardt took a deflection off Kevin Henderson and hit the far post – a chance which proved to be their best of the night.
However, Panthers were keen to twist the knife and Alex Bolduc’s pass set up Pither, who sent a wrist shot into the roof of the net to add a third.
Then Pither got his second of the game when he moved into the inside right lane, flicking a shot into the top corner and seal a good two points for Nottingham Panthers on the road.
