GLASGOW CLAN 2 GUILDFORD FLAMES 3 (OT)

Glasgow Clan were defeated in overtime by Guildford Flames, but completed a five-point week despite the narrow 3-2 loss.

After shutout wins over Milton Keynes Lightning and Sheffield Steelers, Clan returned home, but couldn’t maintain their recent run of victories.

A closely fought first period saw a few chances at either end, but both netminders Travis Fullerton in the Flames goal and Clan’s Joel Rumpel were in stubborn mood.

Guildford’s best chance came when John Dunbar made entry down the right and fed the puck to Kruise Reddick, who immediately moved it back to him.

Dunbar lined up the shot and fired wide as the visitors looked to continue their good record over Glasgow.

However, Clan finally scored their first goal in three attempts against Guildford when Brendan Connolly passed to Guillaume Doucet in the inside left lane.

Doucet brought the puck into the centre, but his initial shot effort was blocked by Calle Ackered, only to get a second try and finishing backhanded past Fullerton.

Clan doubled the lead early in the second when Connolly finished off after Matt Stanisz appeared to hit the post to open a two-goal lead.

Guildford got a way back when a blue-line strike from Evan Janssen took a touch from Ben Davies’ stick to send it beyond Rumpel.

Then the visitors equalised when a hopeful shot from Jez Lundin found its way in at the top left-hand corner of the goal to tie the game.

Both teams couldn’t find a way through in the third period as the game drifted into overtime where Travis Ehrhardt almost found a way through after 10 seconds.

But Ian Watters managed to force the puck over the line to take the victory for the visitors.
