FIFE FLYERS 2 GLASGOW CLAN 4
Glasgow Clan snapped their seven-game losing run to clinch fourth place as they took the two points in a 4-2 win over Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy on Sunday.
Pete Russell was looking for a reaction after the manner of the defeat to Todd Dutiaume’s side on Saturday and got it as the team showed signs of how they played earlier in the season.
Jack Musil got the opening goal inside the first couple of minutes when he latched on to a Guillaume Doucet pass to slot past Fife goalie Shane Owen for an early lead.
The visitors were dealt a blow when Brendan Connolly sustained what appears to be a season-ending knee injury after a clash with Brett Bulmer, who earned himself a game penalty, but the cost to the Clan would be greater with the play-offs coming next week.
From the resultant powerplay, Glasgow made their opponents pay with two quick goals as Tyson Wilson snagged the first of the two goals to double the lead.
Then Doucet drilled one in from the blue line with an early shot that flew past Owen and Clan were three up without reply.
Fife hit back just before the end of the second when former Clan player Jordan Buesa scored against his former team to reduce the arrears to show signs of life.
However, Glasgow appeared to kill them off when Rasmus Bjerrum swept in from Gerard Hanson’s pass and the three-goal lead was restored.
Evan Bloodoff picked up his third goal of the weekend against the Clan for Fife with their second, but it was all they could get on another feisty chapter between these two teams.
The outcome of this and the other games across the Elite League means that Clan will take on Guildford Flames in their two-legged quarter final next week for a spot in the final weekend in Nottingham the following weekend.
