Dundee Stars 3 Glasgow Clan 4 (After OT)

A last gasp overtime winner from Rasmus Bjerrum completed a huge comeback as Glasgow Clan turned a three-goal deficit into a 4-3 win to move to seventh place in the push for the play-offs.

After victory at Manchester Storm last Sunday, Clan took that to this latest road game in Dundee knowing defeat would hand Omar Pacha’s men an advantage going into the run-in.

The visitors started well in the opening minutes as they looked to get the early advantage on the Stars, but couldn’t find a way through Dundee goalie Alex Leclerc.

It was the Stars who took the lead after almost eight minutes when they burst forward on the break as Jordan Cownie set up Shawn Boutin, who was in a central position to despatch his effort past Patrick Killeen.

Matt Carter hit the post shortly after for the home side as Glasgow tried to get a foothold on the game and Craig Peacock was unlucky to see his chance on virtually an open net denied by a phenomenal stop by Leclerc.

Clan began the second period well again, but once more, saw decent chances not being taken as Scott Pitt, Nolan LaPorte and Peacock all saw efforts saved or go wide.

The good work at one end was punished again down the other as Matt Marquardt fired a high one into the away net to double Dundee’s lead.

The towering forward made it 3-0 with his second of the night shortly after as he found space around the back post area and delivered a killer finish.

It was here Clan called a timeout and coach Fitzgerald delivered a blast in an attempt to jolt the players back into game. And it worked.

A couple of minutes later, Linden Springer was on the scoresheet as the Clan started to claw their way back into the game.

It took until nearly ten minutes to go for Glasgow to add another as Chad Rau got a crucial final touch from Sean Robertson’s puck and the gap was closed to one.

Momentum started to swing the way of the Clan – something the travelling Purple Army felt as they roared their team on. Their efforts were truly rewarded.

Scott Pitt got the equaliser – his first point in 12 games – and a contest that looked beyond the Clan suddenly looked achievable in the final minutes.

Overtime was needed and with 1:37 to go, Bjerrum came up with the big finish to beat Leclerc, delighting the Clan fans and delivering the first back-to-back wins for the club since the turn of the year.
