GAME REPORT: SHEFFIELD STEELERS 2 GLASGOW CLAN 3

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan showed their teeth in a gritty win to overcome the Sheffield Steelers after a long road trip down South!

Before puck drop, the Steelers acknowledged a landmark achievement for Clan forward, Robert Lachowicz who laced up his skates for the 1000th time tonight in the Utilita Arena.

Lacho got involved early as captain, Deven Sideroff charged up the left side and laid the puck off into the slot for the #7 to latch onto and shoot on net, but Matthew Greenfield managed to steer it wide.

Former Clan defenceman, Reece Kelly then slammed a wide-open slap shot on net that bounced off Sami Aittokallio’s pads enough to put Brayden Burke on a breakaway at the other end, but he couldn’t find the back of the net.

Hugo Roy eventually found the go-ahead goal when he hung in the slot before slipping a disguised shot through the pads of Greenfield to put the Clan in front.

Glasgow’s lead didn’t make it to the first intermission though as Dominic Cormier first-timed a shot past Aittokallio after a great pick out by Derek Gentile from the corner.

Stephen Harper then gave the hosts the lead in the second period when he dragged the puck through the net front and knocked it high into the net on the powerplay.

Richard Jarusek was thwarted by brilliance later in the period when he fired a close-range shot on Greenfield’s net before zipping the rebound back at him, but the Sheffield netminder stood tall to prevent a goal.

Clan did eventually break through again though as Colton Poolman released Sideroff on a breakaway and the captain sprinted up ice to coolly dispatch the equaliser in the final minute of the second period.

Burke then immediately jumped on the Clan’s momentum from that second period equaliser as he snapped a first time shot into the net to give the Clan the lead just 49 seconds into the third.

The game got heated following the captain’s goal as Chris McKay sent Brian Diffley crashing into the boards before Greenfield stepped into Burke on a collision in front of net.

Aittokallio was under a barrage of attacks from the Steelers front men in the closing minutes but he held off strong to secure two points on the road in a 3-2 win for Glasgow.
