GAME RECAP
It was another disappointing night on the road for Glasgow Clan as they rounded off the weekend in defeat, losing 6-3 at Sheffield Steelers.
After Friday’s loss at Manchester Storm, they knew it would be a tough task against the reigning champions in their own barn, but it wasn’t to be.
Brien Diffley opened the scoring near the quarter hour mark for the Steelers after a hard-fought start to the game.
Their tally was added to by Finlay Ulrick a couple of minutes with a shot from the left side and Aaron Fox’s men were happy to go in two goals up after the first.
Clan found the net nearly halfway through the second period when Tyson McLellan turned in Steven Seigo’s shot from the blue line to divert it past Steelers netminder Matt Greenfield.
Then it was all square shorthanded in the final minute of the middle session as Seigo blasted a shot in by the right-side face-off circle and it was level pegging going into the third.
Steelers fans were hoping to see some history and they got to see it as their captain, Robert Dowd shot home from the slot, a goal that made become the all-time points scorer in the Elite League with 740.
Within a couple of minutes, the two goal gap was restored as Brandon Whistle was on the doorstep to send the puck past Clan goalie Landon Bow for a fourth time.
Kevin Tansey added a fifth on the powerplay from the centre with nine minutes to go as the game started to get out of reach for the Clan.
McLellan picked up his second and Glasgow’s third with a finish at the back door to narrow the gap, but Mitchell Balmas notched number six for Sheffield to make sure of two points for the home side.
