GAME RECAP
Cole Ully’s penalty shot and a Landon Bow save combined to give Glasgow Clan a precious away win at Nottingham Panthers, taking the game 3-2 after a shootout.
After two big results against Fife Flyers, Clan hit the road in a tough test against Danny Stewart’s side, a team in form with eight victories behind them.
An early Hugo Roy chance on the powerplay required a big save from Glasgow netminder Landon Bow to keep the scores level in the early stages.
However, it was an ex-Panther who struck to give the Clan the lead as Simon Deprés struck one from the centre, sending it into the net to get the visitors the lead.
Glasgow had to contend with a five-on-three penalty kill as Matt Stief and Felix Pare sat in the box for tripping and slashing respectively and managed to keep the net unblemished.
Panthers levelled before the end of the first as Tim Doherty set up Didrik Henbrant in the slot to fire in the equaliser and keeping the game all square going into the interval.
Bow denied a chance from Sam Herr in the middle period, but up the other end, Reece Kelly scored with a fantastic shot from the blue line that found its way in, restoring Clan’s lead.
It took Nottingham five minutes into the third period to equalise again as Matt Spencer saw his shot rocket into the net and the game was tied once more.
Tyson McLellan’s penalty for interference with ten to go needed a big defence, which delivered as Clan successfully negotiated the kill to return to full strength.
A minor skirmish between Clan skipper Deven Sideroff and Panthers’ Tim Spencer saw both players take a seat for roughing.
But neither side could break the stalemate as the game headed into overtime and a point achieved for both teams going into the extra period.
Panthers goalie Jason Grande made a big save to deny Mitchell Heard early in the extra session, but no further progress was made as penalty shots were needed to decide a winner.
Ully and Heard each scored their attempts while Panthers netted through Kristoff Kontos and Roy, setting up a sudden death showdown where Ully struck again to confirm the extra point and a six-point week.
