GAME RECAP
A Mitchell Heard wondergoal set the tone early as Glasgow Clan picked up another big road win, securing a 4-2 success over Nottingham Panthers at the Motorpoint Arena.
The result puts Clan a point behind sixth place Guildford Flames in the standings as they continue to pick up the points, making it 20 points from the last 11 games now.
It was a dream start after four minutes when they opened the scoring with a goal of the season contender, never mind goal of the week.
Heard picked up the puck in the left corner, retreated back down the wing before slaloming his way towards the centre, moving the black disc away from Panthers goalie Jason Grande and slotting it home.
The Panthers levelled a few minutes later as Tim Doherty made a clever move before firing a shot past Lucas Brine in the Clan goal.
It was a lengthy opening period due to the volume of penalties and a repair needed on Brine’s mask, but after all that, it was tied at one apiece after the opening 20.
Within a minute of the restart, the home side were ahead as Kristoff Kontos teed up Reid Stefanson, who fired in from the slot to put Panthers 2-1 ahead.
Mitch Fossier thought he had added a third for Nottingham, but the goal was wiped out on review after Otto Nieminen was judged to have impeded Brine in a goaltender interference.
It kept the scoreline tight and Brine did well to deal with two chances from Matt Alfaro as Panthers looked to make sure there was a third goal.
However, a Cole Ully snipe from the slot was the leveller in the final couple of minutes of the seconds as the in-form Clan marksman made it three goals in three games to produce a 2-2 scoreline.
A closely fought third period was played out where it was going to come down to who would blink first, as both goalies did their bit to make sure there would be no further breaches.
That lasted until just over three minutes to go when a scramble around the blue paint after the puck hit off Grande.
In the ensuing tussle, Ully was the player put the puck into the net – a goal that required checking and was given to confirm a late lead for Glasgow.
Deven Sideroff put it beyond doubt with an empty net goal as Panthers pulled Grande in an attempt to salvage something from the game.
