GAME RECAP
A Cole Ully penalty shot in the second period offered hope of a Glasgow Clan comeback, but Nottingham Panthers held on to take a 2-1 win at the Motorpoint Arena.
Clan completed their double road weekend in the East Midlands as Clan coach Corey Neilson looked to plot victory against his old team and get his team back to winning way after Friday’s loss at Manchester Storm.
Sam Herr went close in the opening stages before Jason Grande, the Nottingham goalie, had to deny Steven Seigo up the other end.
But it was the home team who took the lead as Herr set up Mitch Fossier to send his effort into the roof of Landon Bow’s net inside the opening five minutes.
Grande was further tested as he made a double save to deny Matt Berry, then kick saved a chance from Liam Finlay late on in the period to preserve their lead.
There wasn’t much to separate the sides in the early stages of the second period, although Keaton Jameson hit the post with his chance.
Reid Stefanson was also denied, but soon Nottingham were two up as Zsombor Garat drilled his effort in from the blue line area on the 32nd minute.
Robert Lachowicz was impeded by Fossier on his way to goal and the Clan were awarded a penalty shot, which was successfully converted by Cole Ully to close the gap to one.
The third period threw up a closely fought affair, with neither side giving much away, but neither side able to progress on their respective goal tallies.
A powerplay chance for the Clan as Stefanson sat on a delay of game call offered hope coming into the final ten minutes, but ultimately came to nothing.
Bow was pulled in the final couple of minutes in attempt to get something, while the Clan coach got his players in for a timeout to plot a way through.
However it wasn’t to be as Panthers edged the contest and took the points, sending Glasgow back home with nothing to show for their efforts.
