The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan suffered a road loss at the hands of the Manchester Storm after a strong display in a tight, low-scoring Motorpoint Elite League game.

Manchester opened the scoring early through Brandon Cutler as he weaved his way through the Clan defence with ease before dragging the puck past Rasmus Tirronen who had to come way off his line and knocking home the first goal of the night.

Josh Tarzwell forced a turnover in the offensive zone to grant an opportunity on the penalty kill to Cole Kodsi, but he was forced out to a wide angle by Drew Derrider and couldn’t get a shot on net.

After a fairly uneventful first period, the Storm sparked life back into the game with Joseph Nardi snapping a first-time shot high into the Clan net to double the hosts’ advantage.

Just five minutes later, Glasgow’s second line proved to be their most prosperous as Cade Neilson charged up the right wing before popping a neat pass into the slot for Tarzwell to arrive onto and send past Derrider.

In the third period, the Clan battled hard to try find an equaliser, with Tristin Langan creating a pocket of space between the hash marks and exploding in behind the Storm defence, but he couldn’t find a way to put it over the line.

Juho Rautanen stepped into a good shot from the left side but Derrider was quick to glove it down and hold on to the rebound.

Glasgow went on to pull Tirronen to the bench in a last-ditch attempt to level the score, but couldn’t find a second goal in the game, leaving Manchester to sweep up all the points at the AO Arena.

Glasgow now turn their attention to the Dundee Stars, who they will travel to face in the Challenge Cup this Saturday before hosting the Belfast Giants at the Braehead Arena the following day.
