GAME RECAP

Glasgow Clan’s first outing of the new calendar year ended in disappointment as Manchester Storm scooped the points in a 4-1 win at Planet Ice Altrincham.

After finishing 2024 with eight wins from their last ten, the New Year’s resolution was to improve the road form, with only four wins from 14 on their travels, however it wasn’t to be on this occasion.

The first period was nothing to write home about as both sides cancelled each other out with nine shots on goal, none converted and a Mitchell Heard hooking penalty, successfully killed, to reflect on.

Storm set about changing that as they began the second period in the best possible way, finding the back of the Clan net after three minutes following the restart.

Ryan Hughes was the player to send it past Glasgow netminder Landon Bow as the puck ended up with the Manchester player and he duly put it away.

Just over a minute later, they were two ahead as the home side managed to escape from some Clan pressure, with Craig Martin the finisher.

Clan hit back just over the halfway mark of the middle period when Mitchell Heard rushed Evan Weninger’s net and swiped the puck home for his ninth goal of the season.

Corey Neilson’s side thought they had picked up an equaliser in the dying embers of the second as Liam Finlay’s shot hit the crossbar, but on review, the puck hadn’t crossed the line.

Hughes struck again with seven minutes to go as Manchester increased their lead in the final seven minutes, leaving the Clan with a big job ahead.

The visitors gambled in the closing stages as Landon Bow was pulled in an attempt to salvage from the game.

But Cam Critchlow took advantage of the gaping net by scoring a fourth for the Storm and securing the victory for them.

For Clan, it’s on to Nottingham on Saturday to complete the double header road trip against the Panthers.
