GAME RECAP
Guildford Flames 5 Glasgow Clan 3
It wasn’t to be for Glasgow Clan as Guildford Flames took the Elite League points in a 5-3 victory at the Spectrum in the first part of a double road game weekend.
Flames got the ideal start when Jack Jacome swept in a rebound just 24 seconds into the game after Clan goalie Landon Bow had saved from Matt Alvaro initially.
Jacome got another sight at Bow a few minutes as the home side looked to add to their tally, but Bow was on red alert to thwart the puck from getting past him.
Marcus Tesink tried one from the blue line as Guildford created themselves another look on goal, but Bow was more than equal to it.
Steven Seigo had Clan’s best chance of the opening period when his chance was spilled by Flames netminder Eamonn McAdam before his defence frantically cleared it.
Cole Ully was on target with a powerplay finish halfway through the second period when McAdam dealt with Seigo’s effort, with Clan’s #91 executing the finish.
Clan immediately went on the offensive as they put the pressure on their hosts and it paid for them with a go-ahead goal a couple of minutes later.
It came courtesy of Liam Finlay, who saw his shot squirming through the five-hole of McAdam and into the net and the visotors had turned the scoreline around.
Flames pulled level early in the third on a powerplay as Ethan Strang netted the equaliser as Nick Prkusic sat on a tripping penalty.
They took the lead midway through the third as Charlie Curti’s attempted cutback came agonisingly off the skate of Simon Deprés and beyond Bow to restore an advantage.
Guildford opened up a two-goal lead when Ryan Tait’s effort was stopped by Clan’s goalie, but it was duly finished off by Charlie Dodero with a powerful shot.
Glasgow captain Deven Sideroff sent the puck flying into the net to give the visiting fans a glimmer of hope as it arrowed into the net.
But Alvaro’s empty net goal sealed the victory for Paul Dixon’s side, with Clan now heading to Coventry to take on the Blaze in Sunday’s game.
