Glasgow Clan vs Sheffield Steelers

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan fell to the Sheffield Steelers in their first Motorpoint Elite League game of the 2026/27 season.

Mick Messner had the first look at net as he released a low shot from the left side in the opening minute which Matthew Greenfield had to kick clear of the Sheffield crease.

Mitchell Balmas opened the scoring after just three minutes as he cut into the slot from the right and placed a great shot into the top corner.

A broken stick in the Clan zone prevented Alex Forbes’ clearance from reaching the neutral zone, and it was Balmas again who picked up possession and fired a shot on the spin to double the Steelers’ lead.

Evan Jasper then got a good tip in front to redirect the puck on the Clan net, but Rasmus Tirronen was quick to react with his blocker pad to keep it out.

After getting his first professional goal last night in Fife, Josh Tarzwell looked hungry for his second as he intercepted the puck in the Steelers zone on the penalty kill and released a good shot in close but he couldn’t force it over the line.

Dominic Cormier then made it three for Sheffield as he drove at net from the left side and dragged the puck to his backhand before stuffing it over the line in the 14th minute of play.

Ryan Tait added to the visitors tally less than 90 seconds into the second period as Cormier drove at net from the left wing and forced the puck to the line but was paddled away by Tirronen, only for the rebound to bounce off of Tait and into the net.

Balmas then completed his hattrick with a snipe from the slot before Brady Risk was denied by Greenfield’s catcher on a good shot from distance.

Cole Kodsi then tested the Sheffield #1 with a high first-time shot in close which had to be elbowed away before the end of the middle frame.

Kodsi came close to getting his second goal of the weekend in the final period as he dragged the puck from behind the net into the crease but it slipped off his tape before he could release a shot.

Risk was also denied again, this time by former Clan netminder, Lucas Brine, as he broke through the Steelers defence to generate a wide-open look at net, but he couldn’t beat the catcher of the young brit.

A Rob Lachowicz shot just squeeked through the pads of Brine before the end of the game, allowing Alex Forbes to crash in and jam home as Glasgow picked up a minor consolation at the end of a sobering league opening night.
