The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan put on a great 60-minute performance to overcome a short-benched Sheffield Steelers in the first of their three-game Scottish road trip weekend

The Clan got off to a strong defensive start with Jason Fram diving into a poke check to deny Robert Dowd an opportunity on the breakaway as Sheffield were smothered offensively in the opening minutes.

Glasgow found a breakthrough at the other end through Joe Hazeldine after some nice slip passing between Hugo Roy and Deven Sideroff set up a the #73 for a first time finish past Matthew Greenfield.

Mitchell Balmas then danced through the Clan defence with fine stickwork before cracking a high shot which Lucas Brine forced wide with his catcher glove before Brayden Burke slammed a shot all alone which Greenfield did very well to glove down.

Stephen Harper then got a high redirect on a shot in close to force an awkard save from Brine at an angle before kicking the rebound out of his crease and away from the lurking Steelers’ forwards.

Mikko Juusola fired a shot through traffic which deflected off a Clan skate and low past Brine to give the visitors the lead going into the first intermission.

In the opening minute of the second period, Dowd had a great chance with a backdoor first time shot which Brine saved spectacularly with a stretch across his line and a blocker up high.

Tristin Langan picked up possession in the offensive zone for Glasgow before feeding Brayden Burke who dished a smart pass into the slot for Seigo to charge on net and slip a tidy five-hole finish over the line and tie the game up.

Darien Kielb got a breakaway immediately after following the faceoff win at centre ice for Glasgow but was denied by the pads of Greenfield on his low shot attempt.

Rylan Schwartz found a way through just a few minutes later though after some puck luck with the officials leaning in Clan’s favour on a potential too many men call as he punched a shot from distance into the top shelf from the right wing.

Evan Jasper got the puck in wide open space but was denied by the post on his shot before Ryan Tait was bested by Brine’s shoulder on a long-range drive.

Sheffield levelled before the third period though with Tait making a swashbuckling run up left wing before driving at net where his backhand attempt was saved by Brine before the rebound fell to Kevin Tansey who poked home a third for the Steelers.

In the third period, Pare followed in on Schwartz’s sharp angle shot but couldn’t force it over the line and it fell out to Richard Jarusek who hit a shot which clipped the post and marginally stayed out.

Mitchell Heard attempted to redirect Harper’s shot at the doorstep before backhanding a rebound attempt on net but Brine made a double save to deny the former Clan forward.

Tristin Langan reinstated Glasgow’s lead later in the period with a tidy bar-down finish with Clan in the ascendency in the final frame.

A holding penalty on Miihkali Teppo in the closing minutes applied some pressure to the lead with Sheffield pulling Greenfield for the sixth skater too, but it wouldn’t go as Langan grabbed an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the victory for Glasgow.
