The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan battled with a short bench in a tough game against the now league-leaders, the Nottingham Panthers but came away with nothing as the East Midlands side started their 3-game weekend with a 4-3 win.
Matthew Marcinew got the first chance of the game as Chase Pearson dropped the puck off at the left side of the net and the #8 skated into a shot which just fizzed wide of the net.
Nottingham took an early lead shortly after through captain, Matt Alfaro after Mitchell Fossier played a simple pass from dot-to-dot but Sami Aittokallio was sent off his line and Alfaro had a clear shot of the bottom right corner which he didn’t waste.
Richard Jarusek quickly levelled the scoring for Glasgow though as he picked up possession on the powerplay after a neat layoff from Cade Neilson and sniped a beautiful shot into a narrow gap in the top corner over Kevin Carr.
Felix Pare had to jostle with Ross Armour to keep him out of the slot on a determined drive on net but Nottingham’s #19 managed to squeeze a shot through Pare’s legs with a nice backhand move and Sami Aittokallio had to be quick to kick it clear.
Pearson then made a mazy charge in from the right wing to the goalmouth and placed a shot into the Clan net to put the Panthers back in front after just five minutes of being level.
Marcinew was denied on a first timer at the backdoor by a swift slide across his line from Aittokallio as the Panthers took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Rylan Schwartz sent a shot into the body of Carr which bounced into the crease where Tristin Langan was setup waiting for a rebound but he couldn’t get a shot off and the puck rolled past the outside of the post with the net wide open.
Aittokallio then made a great save as Fossier again sent him the wrong way with a disguised pass to Alfaro who’s shot from a wide angle went low on net and the Finn had to kick his leg out quickly to stop it.
Deven Sideroff then put the Clan back on level terms with a great finish through the five-hole of Carr on a breakaway thanks to a stretch pass setup from Brayden Burke.
David Noel then struck the post with a shot from the hash marks before Didrik Henbrant cannoned a shot off the bar which had to be reviewed by the officials to be ruled as no goal.
Zsombor Garat grabbed a third for Nottingham before the end of the first period with a simple backdoor tap in to leave Glasgow with a tough task in the final period.
The Clan were then the victims of a no-goal verdict after video review as Jarusek put the puck in the net for the second time in the game but it was ruled out as he used his hand top redirect Rylan Schwartz’s shot.
After a lengthy delay due to damaged plexiglass, the game got restarted and Cade Neilson scored a third Clan equaliser with a neat first time finish at the backdoor to finish off a dazzling passing move with Burke and Darien Kielb.
Fossier sniped a shot with five minutes left in the game to quash Glasgow’s momentum though as the Panthers started off their 3-game Scottish road trip with two points at Braehead.
