GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan had to be patient as what was looking like a frustrating night turned into another Elite League win as four third period goals secured a 4-1 win over Manchester Storm.
Corey Neilson’s men dominated the chances throughout the game as Manchester goalie Evan Weninger had one of those nights, at least for two periods until the Clan finally made the breakthrough.
But it was Manchester who got the perfect start when a bouncing puck fell for Alexis D’Aoust on the inside right and his attempted play got a final touch from Grant Hebert to beat Clan netminder Landon Bow.
The home side made every effort to get back into the game in the first period as Liam Finlay hit the outside of the post.
Then Cole Ully saw his route to goal blocked on Evan Weninger, the Manchester goalie’s right-hand side as he squeezed himself against the post.
Weninger was proving to be a thorn in the Clan side as Rylan Schwartz was clean through but couldn’t find a way past the Storm netminder.
Up the other end and almost immediately after, Craig Martin threw one on the Glasgow net, only to be denied by Bow’s left side post.
The chances kept coming the way of the Clan in the second period, but another frustrating 20 minutes followed as Weninger proved to be something of a colossal figure in the Manchester goal.
A close range back hand chance from Nick Prkusic was denied by Weninger’s left leg pad then Tyson McLellan, Deven Sideroff and a couple of key chances from Finlay were stopped.
Clan’s #10 had the best chance in the final minute of the second when his effort was someone swiped away by Manchester’s main man, leaving the home side scratching their heads at the 30-13 shot count in their favour, but nothing to show for it.
Gianluca Estevez went close as Storm broke forward early in the third, but found Bow in an unforgiving mood as Glasgow still tested the resolve of their opponents.
Finally, they managed to breach the stubborn Weninger as Clan won the face off in the Storm zone. A shot followed from Mitchell Heard which was initially blocked, but it broke for Sideroff to tuck it away.
Within a couple of minutes later, Glasgow took the lead as Joe Hazeldine’s long pass released Ully, who blasted the shot into the Manchester net.
Then Robert Lachowicz picked up his first goal of the season with a shorthanded opportunity with six to go to put daylight between the two teams.
The GB international struck again with another shortie and on an empty net as Storm went six-on-four in the final minutes, with Clan adding a fourth to make sure of the points.
