GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan and Manchester Storm went all the way to overtime in this Elite League clash, but it was the Storm who prevailed with a 3-2 win at Braehead Arena in the extra period.
The Clan got off to a quickfire start through Mitchell Heard who pounce on an early powerplay chance and sent his own rebound past Manchester goalie David Tendeck to open the scoring after just three minutes.
Rylan Schwartz was then handed a 10-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct on top of a two-minute elbowing penalty, but Glasgow’s penalty kill unit did well to hold off the Storm’s five-man attack.
In the second period, the Storm found themselves back level through Jake Durflinger as he snuck into the Clan crease and tapped a first time shot past home netminder Landon Bow at the back door.
Liam Finlay came agonisingly close to reinstating the Clan’s lead later in the period when he snapped a backdoor shot on net but was narrowly cut out by the pads of the visiting keeper.
Tyson McLellan also came close to putting the home side back in front when his shot pinballed off of Tendeck’s pads and the post and skipped across the goal line but didn’t cross.
Off the back of McLellan’s chance, the Clan continued to put pressure on the Storm defence, but they couldn’t find a way into the net as the buzzer sounded on the second period with the score tied at one.
In the third period, Alexis D’Aoust brought the visitors back to level terms as he ripped a wrist shot from between the dots high into the Clan net on a five-on-three powerplay for the Storm.
Heard and Cole Ully both came close to grabbing a late Clan winner but it wasn’t to be as Tendeck shut the door to any Clan attacks in the final period.
McLellan was also denied a late winning goal when his effort from long range struck the bar and went north as the game went beyond 60 minutes into three-on-three overtime.
But it was Ryan Hughes who settled things in overtime with a goal half-way through the five-minute overtime period as the Clan were left with just one point from the weekend.
