The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan were overturned by the Guildford Flames after a two-goal comeback from Paul Dixon’s side left Mike Sirant with his seventh straight loss in the Motorpoint Elite League 2026/27 season.
Both teams came into the game needing a response after taking a heavy defeat the night before, the Clan being shutout in Sheffield with a 5-0 road defeat and the Flames losing to the Flyers 10-2 in Kirkcaldy.
Josh Waller, who scored two when these sides last met just two weeks ago, got the first shot of the night as he drove up the left side wall and rifled one on net, but Rasmus Tirronen was quick to glove it down.
Steven Seigo scored for Glasgow at the six minute mark as he glided through the slot awaiting a pass from Josh Tarzwell and when he got it he banged a first-time shot high over Brad Arvanitis to open the scoring.
Matt Spencer doubled the hosts’ lead exactly one minute later as Rylan Schwartz popped the puck out from behind the Guildford net to the big defenceman who buried a quick shot into the top corner.
The Flames pushed back in search of an equaliser, with Tyler Busch then Mathieu Gosselin being denied by some great stops from Tirronen before the end of the first period to see the Clan into the break with a two-to-nothing lead.
Guildford found a way back into the game in the second period though as Justin Ducharme squeezed a low shot through the five-hole of Tirronen shortly before Jack Jacome fired home an equaliser all within the first three minutes of the period.
Rasmus Tirronen did well to keep Glasgow in the tie for the remainder of the period, with a great poke check to deny Waller on a grade-A chance before stopping Nate Kallen’s back door slam with a sprawling catcher save.
Cole Kodsi generated the best offensive move for the Clan with an eye-catching solo run through the zones dangling past Flames defencemen before seeing his effort marginally blockered wide by Arvanitis.
In the third period, Karl Boudrais’ shot from the blue line was redirected by a slashing tip from Alex Lavoie to put the visitors in front for the first time in the game.
The wheels seemingly came off for the Clan after going behind in the third, with Boudrais then scoring one of his own as he was afforded way too much time and space in the slot, walking in and picking his spot to slice a fourth past Tirronen.
Mike Sirant pulled Tirronen to the bench for the extra skater with three minutes still left in the game, which created some offensive momentum for the Clan which they couldn’t capitalise on.
A back door chance for Ross Armour was denied by Arvanitis and the Flames broke out the other way, with Brett Neumann knocking home the empty netter to make it 2-5.
Tirronen was pulled again despite the three-goal deficit, allowing Boudrais to get his second of the night and see Guildford comfortable claim the two points with a 6-2 road win.
The Clan will return to Challenge Cup action next week after losing seven straight in the league, facing the Dundee Stars on Wednesday before travelling to Belfast on Saturday to face the Giants and then hosting the Flyers at Braehead on Sunday.
