GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan rounded off 2024 in style as they made it four points from four with a comfortable 5-1 win over Fife Flyers at Braehead Arena.
The victory also extended Clan’s home winning run to eight straight games as they head into the New Year in front of a sold out building.
The Clan started off the game in style as Cole Ully put the hosts in front, finishing off a stellar move through the Fife zone with tape-to-tape passing from Tyson McLellan and Liam Finlay.
Glasgow saw out the remainder of the opening period with a one-goal lead as Lucas Brine closed the door at the back end for the Clan.
In the second period, Matt Stief came close to notching a second Clan goal on the boards as he broke all alone in on the Fife net, but Flyers’ netminder, Janis Voris stood tall.
Stief quickly made up for his shortcomings as just a minute later he perfectly setup Felix Pare at the backdoor to double the Clan’s advantage.
Mitchell Heard then had to scramble to recover the play as he allowed Lucas Chiodo in on net all alone, but the Clan’s #13 did well to get his stick in the lane of the Fife captain.
Later in the period, Rob Lachowicz earned himself a breakaway chance when he poked the puck free in the neutral zone on the penalty kill, but his eventual shot was covered by Voris.
In the third period, Chris McKay pulled off a miraculous goal line save for the Clan as he swept Chiodo’s tipped attempt on net away from danger at the last second.
Chris Martenet then caused a scramble in the Fife crease which resulted in a loose puck in the path of Matt Berry and he made no mistake of slamming it into the net for his first Clan goal.
Keaton Jameson shook the nerves of the Flyers defence later in the period as he struck the bar on a sharp angle shot before Deven Sideroff set up Heard at the backdoor who fanned on the shot.
McLellan then added a fourth Clan goal to the tally when he tipped Martenet’s long range effort before Pare grabbed his second of the game with just one minute left, making sure the Clan skated to victory.
