The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan got back to winning ways with a thrilling overtime win in a nine-goal game at Braehead against the Fife Flyers.

Neither side took real control of the game in the early stages with Garet Hunt attempting a wraparound for the Flyers that had to be cleared out the crease before Rylan Schwartz was denied on a first time slap shot by Shane Owen’s paddle.

Clan captain, Deven Sideroff managed to break the deadlock early though as he tipped Steven Seigo’s long-range blast and redirected it high into the Fife net after just three minutes.

The game was then paused momentarily for a issue with the plexi glass but we were quickly back underway and Schwartz was denied on a net drive from the right wing by a great save from Owen before Sideroff sliced his rebound shot just wide.

Owen continued to bail the Flyers out throughout the first period, denying Brett Neumann and Richard Jarusek with some quick reflex saves.

Glasgow found a way past Owen before the first intermission though with Austin Mitchell-King parking himself in front of the Fife net and getting on the end of a blocked shot from Darien Kielb to rifle the puck low to double the hosts’ lead.

In the second period, Aittokallio gloved down a bomb from the blue line by former Clan defenceman, Drew McLean before Steven Seigo was denied by a shoulder save on a first time slap shot.

Glasgow ended their powerplay woes later in the middle frame with Tristin Langan battling the puck into the crease before Jason Fram arrived to help his teammate and dived onto the loose puck at the backdoor to poke home a third on the five-on-four.

Garet Hunt kept the Clan on the powerplay with a cross checking minor at the same time as Fram’s goal but the Flyers killed it off and started to fight their way back into the game.

Ethan Somoza tapped a backdoor shot high over Aittokallio on the powerplay to put the visitors on the boards. Shortly after, Jarusek was harshly assessed a minor penalty for goaltender interference and Logan Neilson snapped a very nice finish into the top corner to put them back within one on the resulting powerplay.

Keaton Jameson completed the comeback for Fife in the third period with a rebound of Hunt’s shot from deep in the slot before Seigo put the Clan back in front with a cannon from the blue line to claim a fourth for Glasgow.

Giordano Finoro struck the bar on a shorthanded breakaway as Fife refused to back down late on in the game with Somoza reaching to tip a backdoor shot on net which Aittokallio had to be quick to grab.

Josh Winquist eventually levelled for the Flyers with just 52 seconds left in the game as he sniped a shot from the right wing to send the game to overtime after eight regulation goals split evenly.

Aittokallio and Owen played well in the five minutes of sudden death overtime but it was the Fife netminder who blinked first with Neumann claiming a game winner after just 30 seconds on a breakaway to end the Clan’s 7-game losing streak.
