GAME REPORT: GLASGOW CLAN 6 DUNDEE STARS 5 (AOT)

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan completed a blockbuster comeback in a dramatic 6-5 overtime victory over Dundee Stars in the Challenge Cup.

The Stars opened the scoring one second earlier than the Clan’s opener in the last meeting between the two sides as Justin Bean picked up a loose puck and tucked it home one minute and 39 seconds into the game.

Alex Forbes then unleashed a powerful shot from the top of the circle which was tipped in front by Richard Jarusek but it went north of the bar.

Brayden Burke continued to build pressure on the Dundee defence off the back of Jarusek’s close call as he and Joe Hazeldine cannoned multiple attempts on net.

The momentum was quashed though when Griffin Luce played a puck into the slot and it took a fortunate bounce past Sami Aittokallio against the run of play.

Dundee then built momentum of their own as they went on the powerplay on a Chris McKay penalty and Spencer Naas had to be denied by some fine goaltending from Aittokallio.

A Brett Neumann tip on Langan’s long range drive trailed just wide in the closing seconds of the first as Dundee went into the intermission ahead by two.

It took just 43 seconds for the Stars to turn their two-goal lead into three in the second period as Naas rebounded an attempt from Bean and sent the puck high into the net.

Heard then had his head in his hands when he snapped a shot from close range that just clipped the inside of the post and narrowly stayed out as the Clan’s frustration on offense grew.

Cade Neilson eventually broke the silence on the Glasgow scoring front with some superb trickery as he deked past Kruse to poke the puck over the line.

Langan then got the Clan back to within one when he burst up the right wing and backhanded the puck through the fivehole late on in the second.

Morten Jurgens responded almost instantly for Dundee though as he reinstated their two goal advantage to give the game a 4-2 scoreline going into the third.

After the second period ended, Aittokallio found himself surrounded by Stars players in between the benches in a bizarre altercation which eventually saw Heard penalised for abuse of officials.

The Clan survived the resulting powerplay in the third period and immediately flipped the game’s momentum with Miihkali Teppo scoring just 35 seconds after the penalty expired.

Rylan Schwartz then bagged a dramatic equalising goal as Mitchell Heard rounded the net and laid it off for Schwartz to first time into the top shelf.

Dundee thought they claimed the winner with Jackson Desouza’s goal in the final four minutes, but Langan answered back with a bomb on a 6-on-5 play to send the game to overtime.

It didn’t take long for Brett Neumann to end the game and win it for Glasgow as he clipped the puck at the backdoor and sent it past Kruse to claim a dramatic comeback overtime victory!
