The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan were captained to glory in a controlling victory over Challenge Cup rivals, the Dundee Stars on home ice.
Hugo Roy had the first big chance of the game after Richard Jarusek battled his way into the slot and layed off the speedy #19 to release a shot on net but Emil Kruse saved it.
Clan captain Deven Sideroff got the hosts off the mark later in the period as he dangled through the crease, duking past Kruse and slipping the puck over the line off the post.
An unforced error from Joe Hazeldine gave Matthew Boudens a chance in front of net all alone and he didn’t waste it as he rifled the Stars’ first shot on target into the back of the net.
The stalemated opening period frustrated Glasgow who out shot Dundee by 9-3, but the second period brought more rewards as Sideroff claimed his second just 90 seconds in.
Alex Forbes came agonisingly close when he picked up a rebound at the backdoor and sent Kruse the wrong way but he lost control of it at the line and it trailed wide.
Chris McKay then unleashed a powerful shot from the blue line that fizzed low on net and was met by Kruse’s pads but had to be stopped by the pipe as it lingered on the line.
The Clan were granted a golden opportunity when a hooking call on Yamamoto was quickly followed by a bench minor for too many men, creating a 5-on-3 powerplay.
Tristin Langan’s early shot on the powerplay caused chaos in the crease as Kruse kicked it high onto the post and Sideroff’s rebound had to be scrambled off the line and covered.
The captain was once again at the net front on the powerplay and this time he found the sweet spot as he tipped Jason Fram’s effort high into the net to complete his hattrick.
In the third period, Dundee applied some back pressure with Kameron Kielly and Drydn Dow generating offensive chances.
The Stars couldn’t find a second goal past Aittokallio though as a strong final 20 minutes defensively frustrated the visitors.
Sideroff rounded off his monumental night in the spotlight with a fourth goal as he slammed the puck from the top of the left circle high over Kruse.
The captain’s fourth goal won him the player of the game award, with head coach, Corey Neilson claiming: “He could’ve scored from the bench tonight.” Brayden Burke was also the attention of the crowd though as he claimed four assists in the game.
The game ended 4-1 to Glasgow as the Clan took two huge points in their battle to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Challenge Cup, with another dance with Dundee up next.
