GAME RECAP
A late goal from Cole Ully made all the difference as Glasgow Clan came from behind to secure two Challenge Cup points against the Dundee Stars.
The visitors were difficult to break down, but Clan done just enough in a hard-fought game that went right to the end.
The first period didn’t yield a lot of clear-cut chances but when there was, both goalies dealt with them well.
Dundee managed to find the net near the fifth minute mark as Darien Kielb sat on a two-minute for hooking.
Stars took advantage as Keanu Yamamoto set up Brett Gravelle, who sent his shot flying past home goalie Lucas Brine and into the net.
Dominico Alberga tested Brine with a chance from the wide right position, which was covered well as Dundee looked for a second.
But up the other end, Jarrett Fiske came up with the goods for the Stars with a couple of key saves to keep Glasgow at bay in the first.
He firstly denied Cole Ully, who had an effort on the doorstep with a great instinctive save, then Fiske somehow managed to deny Mitchell Heard with a timely block.
Clan almost levelled seconds into the restart as Heard’s pass across the blue paint somehow couldn’t be converted in the centre.
But Dundee went close as Jake Elmer fired one off the post then Brine had to save a Drydn Dow blue line shot that found his glove via an Alberga redirect.
Brine then denied Elmer, who was clean through on a one-on-one chance, but Stars thought they had a second when it looked like Zach Tsekos’s shot has squeezed through the Clan goalie’s legs.
The defence were quick to sweep it away and after a review from the officials, they deduced the puck hadn’t crossed the line.
Simon Deprés went close with a terrific solo effort, but Fiske read it well to deny the home D-man what would have been a highlight reel goal.
Clan finally drew level early in the third as Tyson McLellan sniped the puck across and came off Fiske and into the net to finally restore parity.
Brine was in top form at the other end as he stopped a low Elmer chance then stepped in help captain Deven Sideroff, who was robbed by Alberga and set off through on goal, where the Glasgow netminder made a huge stop.
Ully came up with the big winner with just under three minutes to go as he swept in from the inside left, taking the pass from McLellan, who served it up for him beautifully.
