GAME RECAP

Glasgow Clan’s hopes of picking up two Elite League points were denied as Coventry Blaze ran out 5-0 winners on a disappointing night at Braehead Arena.

After narrowly losing to Belfast Giants on penalty shots on Sunday, Corey Neilson’s men looked to get back to winning ways and created a few chances to test Coventry goalie Mat Robson early on.

A small scramble just outside the Blaze crease nearly saw Rylan Schwartz get it under control, but Robson reacted well to smother.

Then Schwartz at the angle fired one on goal, but it hit the outside of the post as Clan were thwarted again on that occasion.

Chase Gresock had space in the Glasgow zone to fire a clean shot on goal, but Brine did well to catch it low to his left.

Coventry had a breakaway chance shorthanded early in the second when Grayson Constable found himself through on Brine, who dealt with the immediate threat.

Clan’s goalie then followed that up when Constable set up Archie Hazeldine, seeing his deadly shot plucked out of the air in impressive fashion.

Blaze took the lead on the powerplay as a scramble in front of the Clan crease saw Kim Tallberg see the puck pop out to this stick and he sent into the roof of the net.

They added a second near the end of the middle session as Constable spotted Michael Regush surge forward, delivering his shot into the net to double their advantage.

Blaze got the perfect start to the final period as Gresock’s shot managed to find its way through Brine just 23 seconds after the restart.

Then Alexander Kuqali punished an error in the Clan end to send his shot five-hole and the Blaze were four up.

A penalty shot for Alessio Luciani could have been a fifth, but it was well saved by Brine, but that next goal finally came as Zach Heitz slammed his effort in.

Deven Sideroff and Mitchell Heard were both involved in heated incidents with eight to go that saw Clan’s captain cop a 2+5+10 penalty for instigator while Heard received a five-plus-game for fighting.

Mike Pelech also got involved with Blaze’s Mike Kennedy in the final few minutes as temperatures frayed in the closing stages, with roughing the call on both players.

Luciani struck with a shorthanded goal to round off a miserable night for the home side.
