The Premier Sports Glasgow Clan overturned the Cardiff Devils in a thrilling game of hockey at the Braehead Arena thanks to some dogged defending and outstanding goaltending.
The Clan came into the game short-benched with star-defenceman Chris McKay still out through an upper-body injury and Colton Poolman sidelined through injury as well.
The game took a physical tone early doors as Tristin Langan laid a hit at the boards on Tyson Helgeson which the Devil retaliated with a slash putting him in the box five minutes in.
Brett Ferguson then laid a gorgeous hit in open ice on Miihkali Teppo which flattened the Finn, but he was quickly back on his feet and got a shot off not long after which sailed just wide.
Goaltenders, Ben Bowns and Sami Aittokallio had a great start to the game and despite the frantic and feisty nature of the period managed to get to the break with a 0-0 score.
In the second period, Jason Fram battled through the Cardiff zone to the crease and manages to force the puck under the pads of Bowns to grab a go-ahead goal for Clan.
Clan captain, Deven Sideroff quickly doubled the lead as he batted the puck first time from just in front and it sailed into the net from a perfect pass by Langan.
Cardiff went on a 5-on-3 powerplay in the closing minutes of the second period with penalties to Richard Jarusek and Jason Fram.
Brandon Estes struck the outside of the pipe twice on the double powerplay but would turn provider when the Clan went back to four skaters as he assisted Joey Martin for a goal to halve the deficit going into the second intermission.
Brett Neumann reinstated Glasgow’s two-goal lead in the third as he linked up with Brayden Burke and Langan on the powerplay before cracking a first time shot low into the net!
Bowns did well to keep out shots from Sideroff and Schwartz in the final 10 minutes as well as a breakaway chance for Neumann as the Clan refused to fizzle out.
Paul Thompson decided to pull Ben Bowns for the extra attacker with just shy of three minutes left in the game which set up a blockbuster finish.
Brett Perlini scored with the extra skater through a sharp-angle rebound before the Clan took two slashing penalties with just 12 seconds to go to set up a 6-on-3.
The net was knocked off by a Cardiff forward but the officials gave a faceoff in the Glasgow zone which infuriated the Clan bench before also adding five seconds onto the clock which confused a few inside Braehead.
Aittokallio made a huge blocker save off the faceoff and Steven Seigo got on top of the rebound to close out the game and seal two huge points in the league for Glasgow.
