The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan claimed a point but were beaten in overtime in second straight bruising meeting with the Cardiff Devils.

Clan got off to a quick start offensively with newcomer, Brady Risk narrowly missing a tip on Steven Seigo’s shot to make an instant impact to his Clan career before Brett Neumann tested Cardiff netminder, Ben Bowns with a fast shot from the boards.

Josh MacDonald rebounded Joey Martin’s shot at the other end though to put Cardiff in front after just a minute on their first attack of the game.

Tensions then spilled over from last weekend’s bloodied meeting between the two as Tyson Helgesen and Felix Pare dropped the gloves and squared up at centre ice in a great bout to get the game properly underway.

Youngster, Kyle Carruth got involved in the physicality as he jostled with Cole Sanford after the whistle before Rylan Schwartz and Cedric Lacroix had a battle in front of the Cardiff net after a late shot by Clan’s #71.

Brayden Burke missed a Grade A later in the period after Deven Sideroff stole the puck at the blue line and laid him up for a breakaway shot but he fired it wide before Ryan Barrow broke away at the other end and slipped a second past Sami Aittokallio.

Decibels rose inside Braehead again after a nasty hit at the boards from Connor Caponi on Tristin Langan which was reviewed by officials and deemed a major penalty for a check to the head, seeing Caponi out the game and Glasgow onto a five-minute powerplay.

The powerplay carried over into the second period but Glasgow failed to convert as the Devils went back to five skaters before immediately taking a penalty for cross checking and killing that off.

Add onto that, a tripping penalty by Britt Ferguson, Clan had a 5-on-3 just after their five-minute powerplay and again failed to convert whilst also creating no real threats with the extra skater.

In the end, the Clan spent almost half the second period on the powerplay after a cross checking call on Joey Martin but came away with nothing as the Devils held onto their two-goal lead after 40 minutes.

That lead quickly dwindled in the third though as Darien Kielb snuck a shot from a ridiculously tight angle near to the post which bounced off Bowns’ pads and rolled over the goal line to halve the deficit.

Steven Seigo then corked a shot on net which Bowns made the save on but couldn’t keep the puck as it ricocheted into the slot where Cade Neilson was lurking and he batted it back on net high over the Devils goaltender to tie the game up.

Joe Hazeldine then completed the comeback for Glasgow as Sideroff played him into the Devils’ zone with no support and he slammed a shot from the blue which Bowns failed to catch cleanly and it looped into the net to put the Clan ahead.

Kristoff Kontos equalised after a fortunate bounce off the plexiglass for the visitors to force sudden death overtime where Sanford sunk the dagger in Braehead by bagging the winner after four minutes of 3-on-3.
