GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan opened their home league campaign with plenty of efforts on Cardiff Devils, but it wasn’t to be as the visitors skated away with a 3-1 win.
Clan started the game on the front foot and enjoyed a couple of early chances as captain Deven Sideroff and Cole Ully went close to cause concern for the Devils.
Ben Bowns, in Cardiff’s goal, made an excellent save to deny Darien Kielb, who had space to get the shot away.
Then the Clan #74 saw another chance from the wide left position stopped by the visiting netminder at his right-side post.
Mitchell Heard almost managed to successfully finish off a solo effort, but a late poke check denied what surely would have been a wonderful goal at the end of the opening period.
It was the same in the second period as Clan saw chances cause problems at the back, but couldn’t find their way through.
Cole Ully tries to lift the puck over Bowns’ right shoulder then a Keaton Jameson shot, followed up on the rebound by Mike Pelech somehow couldn’t find its way in.
Cardiff went ahead as Reid Duke found Cole Sanford on the inside left, who ripped the effort past Clan goalie Landon Bow for the opener.
Then Josh MacDonald backhanded his chance into the net within a minute later to double the visitors lead.
Alex Forbes was awarded a penalty shot after he was impeded by MacDonald as he had a clear route to goal, but couldn’t take advantage of the one-on-one opportunity as Bowns made the cover.
But Devils increased their lead to three as Cody Donaghey set up Sanford, who scored with his second of the game on the powerplay.
Clan pulled one back in the final minute through Mitchell Heard to give the home crowd something to cheer about and end the night on a positive note despite the final outcome.
